The 16-year-old, 195 cm tall, ball-playing defender Jayden Necovski has become the first player to climb the ranks through our City Football School (CFS), City Academy, and now to sign an A-Leagues contract.

We have heard some magnificent things regarding young talents coming through the City Academy, but now we’re starting to reap the rewards of the CFS being such a successful program across Melbourne. With the pull of the Melbourne City club, this will surely be the first of many young players making their way up the ranks to play for the A-League Men’s and Women’s.

The Melbourne City video ‘Jayden Necovski’s journey so far’ is a fantastic resource of information regarding the player, with Director of Football Michael Petrillo and Senior Manager of the Academy Simon Zappia talking up the youngster’s ball-playing and dribbling ability. Touted as a player who understands the game and knows when to make the right moves forward, be it a run forward or long ball to the wing, this player profile certainly fits the Melbourne City mould.

A “natural leader”, Necovski has captained the Joey’s squad in Italy, and understands that there is plenty of work ahead of him.

If there is any doubt regarding the readiness of young players within our senior squads, please see exhibit A and B in Daniela Galic (17) and Shelby McMahon (15) respectively smashing it for the women’s squad.
